What's it like to be an Agronomist?
Agronomists work in food, fibre and fuel production. They use scientific research to develop more effective farming practices and apply their findings to improve crop yield and quality. Agronomists often work outdoors in various farming environments and conduct experiments in laboratories. They provide farmers with advice on using the right kind of seeds, fertilisers and other agricultural inputs to increase production.
Tasks and duties
- Conducting research on crops to determine optimal plant growth conditions.
- Developing methods to improve the quality and yield of crops.
- Analysing soil and crop data to predict the agricultural output.
- Helping farmers implement more effective farming strategies.
- Performing environmental impact assessments of agricultural practices.
- Diagnosing issues with crops and suggesting appropriate treatment strategies.
- Developing and promoting better earth management and conservation practices.
