What's it like to be an Asset Engineer?
Asset Engineers manage, operate and enhance the physical assets of an organisation. They are tasked with operating, developing and maintaining assets to prolong their life cycle, enhance utility, and ensure regulatory compliance. Beyond managing physical assets, Asset Engineers may also analyse data, inspect progress of ongoing projects and conduct risk assessments. An Asset Engineer may work in various sectors such as energy, transport, telecommunications or manufacturing, where they help to maximise productivity and minimise costs.
Tasks and duties
- Analysing and managing existing assets to determine their performance and to prolong their lifecycle.
- Evaluating potential investments and acquisitions to recommend the most cost-effective solutions.
- Using computer-aided design (CAD) technology in performing calculations and risk assessments.
- Developing maintenance procedures and ensuring implementation to minimise operational costs and improve safety.
- Working closely with project teams to ensure correct asset selection, inspection and maintenance.
- Providing technical support and advice to other departments and staff on asset management.
- Compiling and submitting regular reports to management about asset condition, functionality and costs.
