What's it like to be a Food Technologist?
A Food Technologist researches and develops new food products, or improves the quality and safety of existing products. They perform experiments and tests to ensure that products comply with food safety standards and regulations. Their work can also involve designing processes and machinery for making products with a consistent flavour, colour, and texture in large quantities.
Tasks and duties
- Undertaking research and conducting experiments into different aspects of food production including taste, colour, flavour, texture, nutritional content, storage, packaging, deterioration and quality.
- Providing advice on preserving, processing and storing foods in addition to developing quality control and safety procedures and standards.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
