How to become a Hotel Manager
Hotel Managers typically have practical experience in the hospitality industry. Qualifications can improve your employability.
- 1.
Gain a few years of work experience in a hotel or restaurant setting so you are familiar with how hospitality businesses run, from staff rostering to liquor licensing requirements. As Hotel Managers have a lot of responsibility, it is a job best suited to people with industry experience.
- 2.
Consider completing a formal qualification, such as a bachelor degree in business, or a diploma in hospitality management (Level 6). While formal qualifications are not a requirement for all employers, they will prepare you to work as a Hotel Manager and can increase your chances of success in this career.
- 3.
If the hotel you manage serves alcohol, you must be at least 20 years old and hold a Manager's Certificate and a Licence Controller Qualification. To get this you need to pass a test, which can be completed online or in-person through a training provider.
