What's it like to be a Journalist?
A Journalist (Kairīpoata Pepa) gathers, assesses and presents news and information to the public. Their work includes researching and conducting interviews to collect content on current events, then compiling that information into news stories which can be conveyed via various mediums - newspapers, magazines, radio, television or online platforms. Journalists often work in teams under editors and may specialise in specific areas, such as sports, politics or lifestyle. The role demands well-honed writing skills, the ability to work to tight deadlines, and often involves unpredictable hours as news can break at any time. The ultimate aim of a journalist is to inform, engage and stimulate their audience, acting as a link between events and the public.
