What's it like to be a Program Manager?
A Program Manager oversees the coordination and administration of projects within an organisation. They typically manage a team and are responsible for ensuring the scope of all projects aligns with an organisation's goals. This involves developing project plans, guiding their team, setting deadlines and tracking progress towards organisational objectives. Program Managers might work across several industries such as IT, finance, construction or healthcare, with their tasks often solving complex or cross-functional challenges.
Tasks and duties
- Leading and directing the delivery of major projects within the stipulated time and budget.
- Working with project stakeholders to define the scope, objectives and deliverables.
- Coordinating with multiple departments to facilitate the smooth execution of projects.
- Managing risks and resolving issues that affect release, scope, schedule and quality.
- Measuring and reporting progress to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
- Developing and managing a detailed project schedule and work plan.
- Maintaining comprehensive project documentation so all project information is appropriately archived upon completion.
