What's it like to be a Tester?
A Tester, often referred to as a Quality Assurance (QA) Tester in the tech industry, is responsible for identifying any issues or bugs in a product before it is launched and used by the public. This role involves thoroughly testing products in numerous ways, under various conditions to meet all necessary standards and function consistently under normal use. The Tester produces reports on detected issues and liaises with developers or manufacturers for resolutions. This role can span across a variety of industries, especially in technology and manufacturing, where a fault or problem could result in significant inconvenience or safety issues for users.
Tasks and duties
- Conducting tests on new software, systems or updates to validate functionality and performance.
- Identifying, documenting and reporting bugs, flaws and inconsistencies.
- Working closely with software developers to understand the detailed specifications of the system for accurate testing.
- Creating detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases.
- Participating in design review meetings to provide input on functional requirements, product designs, schedules and potential problems.
- Developing testing protocols that examine all aspects of the system such as functionality, performance, and reliability.
- Communicating with stakeholders about testing outcomes, technical issues and problem solving processes.
