What's it like to be a Mathematics Teacher?
A Mathematics Teacher is responsible for the education of students in mathematical concepts ranging from basic arithmetic to advanced calculus. The typical duties of a Mathematics Teacher include planning and preparing lessons, creating a positive learning environment, assessing students' abilities and providing feedback on performance. They work mostly in educational settings such as primary or secondary schools and universities.
Tasks and duties
- Delivering lessons on mathematics topics, following the curriculum guidelines.
- Designing and implementing educational lesson plans to engage students in learning mathematics.
- Evaluating student progress and adjusting lessons accordingly to meet learning outcomes.
- Providing individualised attention to students to identify areas they are struggling in and provide additional support.
- Setting and grading assignments, tests and exams to measure students' comprehension of the subject matter.
- Participating in departmental meetings, parent-teacher meetings and training sessions.
- Staying abreast of new mathematics pedagogical methods and developments in the mathematics curriculum.
