What's it like to be a Lawyer?
A Lawyer represents clients in legal proceedings, drafts legal documents, and advises clients on legal rights and obligations. Depending on the area of specialisation, a Lawyer may handle cases related to business, criminal law, family law, or other fields. They conduct research, interpret laws, and present facts and arguments in a structured manner in court.Tasks and duties
- Meeting with and interviewing clients to understand their needs.
- Recommending appropriate legal advice and undertaking on behalf of the client.
- Investigating claims and doing research, arranging witnesses and giving notice of court action.
- Preparing and reviewing contracts.
- Preparing and reviewing wills.
- Acting as executor of client wills, or as trustee or guardian of clients when occasion arises.
- Representing clients in court, at tribunals and in mediation.
- Managing conveyancing process and other property issues or disputes.
- Keeping files up to date.
- Meticulous timekeeping.
